What Is The Significance Of RJ45 Connectors?

The RJ45 connector is the abbreviation of the Registered Jack whereas the number 45 specifies its technical measurement. RJ45 is a modulator connector that is excessively used in data and telecommunications. The RJ45 is also used in the computing industry on a large scale. It forms the backbone of the Ethernet and is used in both homes and offices.

The RJ45 comprises of an eight-wire connector that offers standard connections in a home or office network. You can connect your computers, modem and servers with this connector via Ethernet and create a Local Area Network. You can also create a Wide Area Network using the same connectors though the configuration will be a little different.

The RJ45 connector comes in two main specifications. In telephony, you will find them in an 8P2C (8 position 2 conductor) configuration where the pin 5 connects to tip and pin 4 connects to the ring. Computer RJ45, however, have a different specification where they come in an 8P8C (8 position 8 conductor) configuration. All conductors are present in this type of configuration.  The jack-size in RJ45 is a little larger than the one used in standard telephony.

Ethernet connectors can easily support communication speeds of up to 1 Giga-byte per second. This makes them the preferred choice among commercial and home users. It is easier to set up an Ethernet connection with the RJ45 connectors. They are a perfect match for desktop and laptop computers.

Given the fact that the RJ45 has become a global standard in Ethernet, it is not difficult to get your system connected to the Internet at any place. Another positive feature of the RJ45 connectors is their economy. You can purchase cables for a large office network at negligible prices. Making a home connection is even cheaper with these connectors.
